The Computational Intelligence and Image Analysis Group of the University of Malaga -ICAI-, led by Professor Ezequiel López-Rubio, is today a benchmark in neurocomputing, computational learning and artificial intelligence.

With more than 30 years of research activity, it was founded by Professor José Muñoz-Pérez, a pioneer in Spain in the study of artificial neural networks.

But in addition to its research career, recognized nationally and internationally, this Group, attentive to the demands of society, transfers the latest technology that it develops to sectors ranging from biomedicine to e-training or marketing, among others.

The ‘Melomics’ project, directed by Professor Francisco Vico, is one of the main milestones of the Group. The ‘Iamus’ computer, a pioneer for composing music without human help, is the only fully Spanish contribution included in the ranking of the hundred best scientific novelties of 2012, which is produced by the North American magazine ‘Discover’. Likewise, it has also captured the attention of other highly prestigious international media such as ‘Nature’, ‘The Guardian’, the ‘BBC’ or ‘Time’ magazine.

The main research areas of this Group, which is framed within the Department of Computer Languages and Computer Science, are the following:
